HU-rizon Programme: HUF 8 billion in funding for excellent international research projects led by Hungarian universities

The National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NRDI Office) has announced a new HUF 8 billion call to support the launch of international research projects led by excellent Hungarian research teams and involving the world’s top universities and research institutes focusing on solving social and economic challenges of importance to Hungary and worldwide.

From deepfake to overcoming resistance to antibiotic resistance – Innovative companies awarded HUF 30 billion

Budapest, 9 May 2024 – The awarding decision has been made in the Focus Area Innovation Call launched by the National Research, Development and Innovation Office last autumn. With more than HUF 30 billion in non-refundable funding, 54 new projects will be launched in which Hungarian businesses will develop innovative solutions in cooperation with university and research institute partners, mainly in the fields of green transition, healthy living and digitalisation of the economy. This year, the NRDI Office is launching a new HUF 50 billion Focus Area call in the same thematic areas.

New calls for proposals to help protect the intellectual property rights of domestic innovations

Budapest, 08 May 2024 – The National Research, Development and Innovation Office is launching a call with a budget of HUF 500 million in non-refundable funding for Hungarian businesses, research sites and individuals to protect their intellectual property, helping to ensure its effective exploitation, including in international markets.

Over HUF 13 billion paid out to winning applicants

So far this year (up to 30 April 2024), the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund (NRDI Fund) has disbursed HUF 13.4 billion to applicants selected for funding under the calls for proposals of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NRDI Office).

Strategic agreement between three major actors in domestic innovation

On 30 April 2024, the Hungarian Association for Innovation (MISZ) held a board meeting at the Bécsi út Campus of its member institution, Óbuda University. An unusual and unique item on the agenda of the meeting was the signing of a long-term tripartite strategic cooperation agreement.

One billion forints to support the promotion of domestic research results under the new Science Patronage call

Budapest, 23 April 2024 – As a continuation of the previous call for proposals with similar objectives, the Science Patronage programme will be re-launched with a budget of HUF 1 billion this year to promote the visibility of Hungarian scientific achievements and to help the Hungarian research community to join the international scientific community. This call will fund costs related to participation in conferences abroad, the organisation of international conferences in Hungary and science communication.

HUF 5.7 billion public funding for startup incubators

A decision has been taken in the Startup Factory funding programme, announced in October, to support the development and incubation of technology startups: 12 technology incubators across the country have been given the opportunity to invest their own capital in promising startups of their choice, supplemented by public funding, and to support them in achieving market success by providing capital and business know-how.

Over HUF 30 billion for basic research projects

Launched on 21 September 2023, the Focus Area Innovation Call for Proposals 2023 of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NRDI Office) has been successfully closed. The project proposals were reviewed by academic and market experts, as well as the newly established focus area innovation boards covering the 3+1 focus areas of the John von Neumann Programme.

HUF 4 billion to support market-oriented research and development talent

A total of more than HUF 4 billion in funding has been awarded to 150 applicants from 17 Hungarian universities under the Cooperative Doctoral Programme. The programme provides substantial funding to support doctoral research in cooperation with businesses, encouraging market-driven scientific career development and boosting Hungary’s innovation competitiveness.

HUF 2 billion for market exploitation of innovative research results

Building on the knowledge capacity of domestic universities and research institutes, innovative products and processes can be created now with a public funding of HUF 2 billion. The Fast Track programme provides non-reimbursable funding to start-ups and spin-offs, mainly to bring research results related to healthy living, green transition or digitisation to the market.

Nearly HUF 14 billion to support excellent Hungarian research

More than 360 researchers and research groups will benefit from budgetary support totalling HUF 13.8 billion. Targeted at individual researchers and research teams, the so-called OTKA (Hungarian Scientific Research Fund) programmes provide excellence-based support to research projects in different categories based on the different stages of the scientific career, contributing to the strengthening of Hungarian researchers and their international scientific achievements. Project evaluation focuses on the social and intellectual impact of the research.

From idea to business - HUF five billion funding programme for start-ups

The Startup Factory programme is to be relaunched from today. The government will grant around HUF 5 billion in funding to incubators that also provide mentoring and capital investments to Hungarian start-ups. The government aims to give space and support to Hungarian creativity and innovation, thus promoting the growth of the Hungarian economy.
